Valentine's Boxes

Just a reminder that the theme for this year's boxes is: Canadian Inventions.
Students should be prepared to answer the following questions:
1. Who is the inventor?
2. In what year was it invented?

Accelerated Reader

31/10/2011 Accelerated Reader for Grades 3 and 4

We will begin our first Accelerated Reader (AR) session on November 1. AR is a reading program where students are reading materials that are at their reading level and earning points based on how well they do on the comprehension test (which can only be taken at school) for each book they read. AR books have a label on the inside of the front cover which indicates the reading level or range of that book as well as how many points it is worth if they get 100% on the test. Each child has been given a point goal to achieve before the end date of November 25. Every student has a label in their agenda as well as a bookmark with their reading range and goal on it.
AR books are clearly labelled as such. Sometimes books that are not labelled may be in the AR computer program so they will work. Students should check ahead of time to see if unlabelled books will qualify.
This is an important part of our Language Arts program and in order to be successful students need to be reading at home as well as at school.
Our class goal is to have 100% of students achieve their goal. Students are encouraged to get started early and see if they can surpass their goal.

Classroom Visit by Star & Times Reporter Mrs. Mayuk

On Thursday, September 29 my Mom came to Benito School. She did a presentation on her job. She always has to have her notepad with her. She has a big camera and a little tape recorder. She pretended to interview Brenna. It was funny. My Mom has to make stories alot. She makes the stories and hands them in to Twyla. Then she has to correct them. It is a lot like school. She gave us all a Star & Times card. On Friday, September 30th I brought notepads to school for the whole class. by Emily M.

On Thursday, September the 29th Jackie Mayuk, a news reporter came to tell us about her job. She said her editor's name was Twyla and the old editor's name was Derek but he moved to Winnipeg. She got her job because she had good grades in high school and good grades in college. She came to our classroom. She told us how her job went and said she could hand in an article more than 8 times to get it all corrected. She brought a camera and tape recorder and interviewed Brenna. She uses a tape recorder to remember what the people said. She loves her job. by Anika

One day a special visitor came to our classroom. Her name was Ms. Mayuk. She is a reporter that goes around the valley and goes to where there is exciting news. She came yesterday to tell us what a reporter does. She showed us her camera and recorder. by Weston

Agendas

For the week of September 26 to 30 students will earn Super Kid Bucks by having their agendas at school and signed on a daily basis.
The question has come up as to "what day do I sign on?" Sign on the last day that students have completed the day at school - this way you are acknowledging that you have seen the notes for that day.
So when I check:
I check on Monday morning: I look to see that Friday is signed.
I check on Tuesday morning: I look to see that Monday is signed.
I check on Wednesday morning: I look to see that Tuesday is signed.
etc.
